My father in law that had terminal cancer just passed away, its sad but its also a good thing, he was very sick and it was hard to watch him decline over time. My wife and her family are doing well, they had plenty of time to say what they needed to say and feel good about things.
I get a few emails from time to time asking how hes doing since I posted he found out he had cancer so I figured I'd give an update.

Condolences...It's still never fun. At my age I see a lot of friends and family go home to God.

Dallen,
My condolences to you and the family. We just lost my mother-in-law to cancer also. She had been giving cancer a big fight since 2000 but she finally lost the energy necessary to fight. That's why I haven't been around to check on the board. We are getting the necessary business items completed now so I will have more time to spend here.

Mr. and Mrs. C,
I wish you peace and acceptance in your loss. I lost my dad to cancer in 75. The pain will always be there but it is easier after the years. Hold to each other and comfort the family as your grief allows.
Dallan, let your wife take her time to grieve - sometimes it is quick and sometimes it is a long time. Only she can say how long the process will be. Let her cry when she cries - you can do nothing but hold her. Her pain will subside but this first year will be the worst.
Mrs. C, your dad is likely to send you a message. It will be something subtle having to do with something the two of you enjoyed that wasn't shared by others. A favorite game, sport, even a favorite spot that you shared. It will be a light touch to tell you that he is better now, he loves you, and that he is proud of you in ways he could never share while he was alive. In my ministry I comfort the dying and those left behind - if you need to talk I am open.

As long as Dallan is ok with it, and you are open to talking I am here to help. My wife and I are used to getting calls at all hours. It goes with the "job". Whatever is shared stays between us.
