My wife was asking recently if there are any other guns I would like (isn't she sweet!?) after I had recently purchased a Howa 1500 w/ Boyd thumbhole stock in .204 Ruger.
Well I said I would like a good solid revlover like a Ruger Redhawk w/ Burris 2-7 x 32 scope in .480 Ruger or maybe .44 mag. From what I've seen in print, it looks like the .480 falls between a .44 mag and a .454 Casull.
Mostly I would use it for javelina, deer and maybe cow elk out to 100 yards.
I know the .44 can also handle .44 specials, can the .480 also shoot .45 colts?
Of course a 44 mag is plenty for javelina and small-medium deer but if I hunted cow elk I thought the .480 would be a better choice, and for the smaller game I could load some lighter rounds if need be.
Your comments would be appreciated.

The 480 ruger is not capabal of shooting 45 colts, the 480 Ruger is .475 caliber not .452 caliber, Yes the 480 Ruger is a good round for anything you point it at, recoil is alittle stiff for me but others handle that differently.
I have had a 480 ruger and still have a 454 casull, have only shot a few full house loads in the Casull as the recoil is brutal to say the least, I think the 44magnum will do anything you could have a need to do with a handgun or carbine in that caliber.

I have a superredhawk in 454 Casull - which BTW will shoot 45LC. I recently mounted a Burris 4X handgun scope on it but have yet to site it in. Hope to get that done this weekend.
I've probably shot 400-500 rounds through it with iron sights and I've discovered that the recoil is not too bad IF you have a proper grip and avoid fighting the recoil when it rises up. When I first started shooting it, I had bruises in the palm of my hand that were rather painful but now that my form is better, I can shoot as many rounds as I have time for without pain.

Thanks for the feedback guys. That gives me something to think about. I'm not in a hurry, perhaps make choice this winter.
