Geland, I'd like to know your opinion about hollow grind and full flat grind as I'm beginning to like the last one a little more.

And thanks for using a piece of belgian's history, or didn't you know the origin of Mr. Bakelant?

And as always: nice, a little rough but practical

Thanks Wink

Aloy, isn't it supposed to be Baekeland?

I also like flat grind, hollows are good to
1. reduce weight
2. create cavitation so stuff do not stick to the sides of the blade thus made it feels as better cut.
3. promote more thin edges to grind off on sharpening thus improve the useful life of the knife.

But the whole structure become much weaker and more prone to break or edge warp..

*shrugs*

Oeps... I should have looked it up.

Leo Henricus Arthur Baekeland (Gent, 14 november 1863 – Beacon (New York), 23 februari 1944) was een Amerikaanse chemicus van Belgische origine

so an american chemist born in Belgium...

Gelan...that is a beautiful blade mate. I wish I had the tools etc to be able to make a knife like that.

Vince,
I build my linisher with scrouged parts during garbage day
Motor from old hydraulic pump, steel from old table and chairs
plus some purchased parts ie. skateboards wheels, bearings and some bolts.
It does not cost much at all..
Just do it..

If you are curious of my grinders, here is the link to one I modified out of a carcass of an old 4 inch linisher.
I sorta remember this post on the Australian Blade Forums last year.

www.australianbladefor...belts.html

The other machine is fully self built uses 3 phase hydraulic pump motor so I can put in a VFD to vary the speed.
Generally the format is similar but the new one have much better control.
