Republicans in the House of Representatives have scheduled impeachment proceedings against President Obama, claiming his inability to halt the federal government shutdown makes him unfit for office.

Why put up with it!

finally, someone called a spade a spade. Wow.

Radar, there are some who are not putting up with it but there is no sane discussion of differences any more in this country. The people on the left, IMO, don't listen and just keep reciting their views regardless if the facts state otherwise. The US is going off a cliff like a lemming and those that support the consitution and conservative views are considered extremist and patroits are labeled terrorist and they are trying to teach that to our military right now. Its all Wacco!

Such a shutdown, does it also mean you don't have to pay taxes anymore? I should think that when they refuse to pay, they should also refuse to accept...

How many banks will still give a loan to a company that stopped paying its debts?

So why paying for services that no longer excist?

Am I thinking false somewhere?

OOOOoooppppsssie?? From the Daily Currant;

The Daily Currant is an English language online satirical newspaper that covers global politics, business, technology, entertainment, science, health and media. It is accessible from over 190 countries worldwide – now including South Sudan.

Our mission is to ridicule the timid ignorance which obstructs our progress, and promote intelligence – which presses forward.

Q. Are your news stories real?

A. No. Our stories are purely fictional. However they are meant to address real-world issues through satire and often refer and link to real events happening in the world.

Bottom Line
House Republicans have not announced impeachment hearings against President Obama. The website from which this claim originated publishes fictional, satirical stories.

At the very bottom of that page on the Daily Current, hit the ABOUT button and it tells you.

I was reading somewhere that your taxes are going up 1%, I pay 39% of my salary in tax, I also pay a goods and service tax of 15% on most items purchased. There is also heavy taxation on Alcohol, Petroleum and cigarettes (which I gave up long ago). How does that measure up against American Taxation.

Tough question Radar as each state is different. Where I live in Oregon we have the third highest individual income tax of 9.96% but we have zero sales tax. Tax rates are determined by income. Because of a graduated federal tax rate system in 2009 tax rates varied from 10% to 35%. We have taxes on long-term vs short-term capital gains also and it varies according to what type of capital gains for instance realestate, collectables, business stock, and whether it's long or short term. Long term capital gains is determined on your income from 10% to 35%. The tobacco products tax rate (in Oregon) is 65% of the wholesale sales price (except for snuff and cigars), snuff is $1.78 per ounce, cigars are $.50 per cigar.

Here's some copy and paste stuff; Americans on average pay 28 percent of their income to taxes — though it varies widely by income. The above average income earner in 2005 paid 54.4% in 2013 the above average earner paid 59.7%

A partial list of the various ways in which citizens of the US are taxed:

Accounts Receivable Tax
Building Permit Tax
Capital Gains Tax
CDL license Tax
Cigarette Tax
Corporate Income Tax
Court Fines (indirect taxes)
Deficit spending
Dog License Tax
Federal Income Tax
Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA)
Fishing License Tax
Food License Tax
Fuel permit tax
Gasoline Tax
Hunting License Tax
Inflation
Inheritance Tax Interest expense (tax on the money)
Inventory tax IRS Interest Charges (tax on top of tax)
IRS Penalties (tax on top of tax)
Liquor Tax
Local Income Tax
Luxury Taxes
Marriage License Tax
Medicare Tax
Property Tax
Real Estate Tax
Septic Permit Tax
Service Charge Taxes
Social Security Tax
Road Usage Taxes (Truckers)
Sales Taxes
Recreational Vehicle Tax
Road Toll Booth Taxes
School Tax
State Income Tax
State Unemployment Tax (SUTA)
Telephone federal excise tax
Telephone federal universal service fee tax
Telephone federal, state and local surcharge taxes
Telephone minimum usage surcharge tax
Telephone recurring and non-recurring charges tax
Telephone state and local tax
Telephone usage charge tax
Toll Bridge Taxes
Toll Tunnel Taxes
Traffic Fines (indirect taxation)
Trailer Registration Tax
Utility Taxes
Vehicle License Registration Tax
Vehicle Sales Tax
Watercraft Registration Tax
Well Permit Tax
Workers Compensation Tax

How much tax do we really pay?

Item Rate Notes
Federal personal income tax 17%
(2011 est. - 18.2%) Top 25% rate. It ranges from a credit up to well over 40%. Source
State & local income taxes 10.1%
(2009 - 10.6%) State taxes range from under 6% to over 12%. Local taxes run from zero to 2.75%. Source, source, source, 2009 source
Sales tax 9.7%
(2009 - 10.3%) Figure is the average rate. State sales taxes range up to 8% and local taxes run from zero to over 5%. Source, source, 2008 source (broken link as of 2012), 2009 source
Social security & Medicaid 7.65% Total rate is actually 15.3% since half is paid by the employer, but we're ignoring that to be kind and to avoid being accused of being too political.
Federal corporate income tax share 3% Based on corporate taxes being approximately 1/6 of personal taxes, and that they are paid by individuals in the final analysis.
Property tax 2.5%
(2007 - 2.7%) Yearly average actual costs range from under $200 in Alaska to almost $1900 in New Jersey. Source
Fuel/gasoline tax .5%
(2009 est. - .6%) Approximately 23% of the 2005 gasoline price is for federal & state taxes. The federal excise tax is 18.4 cents per gallon. Per the CPI, about 6% of the average budget is for transportation. Estimated. 2010 estimate, $.45 per gallon average. Source
Other 5%
(2009 est. - 7%) Includes estate tax, fees, licenses, inflation losses, inheritance, deficit allowance, gift, and others too numerous to mention. Estimated.

In other words
how the hell
do I know

I figured it out for Washington state and it was between 50% and 60% when I was making 50 - 60K a year.

I pay less in taxes now but it is still a big chunk.

Thanks Suz, I guess we are taxed similarly we just don't know it!
Its funny though because we had a Methane Tax on Farmers as part of the Kyoto Protocol commonly called the Fart Tax! Methane being produced in copious quantities by Dairy herds.

I'm glad we don't have a "watching the television" tax or a "eating peanut M&Ms" tax but if you think about it, look around your house and try and figure out if there's anything in there you haven't been taxed on (one way or the other) but I bet, unless it's been handed down to you from your elders, there isn't much you can find. Think of all the things you do and the ways you accomplish what you do, and the value of the dollars paid is probably much more than your average income. I bought a house one time that was going to go up for auction if the taxes weren't paid. It cost me around 5 thousand dollars and a few hundred in legal fees. I sold the house the first year I bought it, because of various reasons, and it cost me 35% of the sale price in taxes. If I'd lived in the house or at least kept it for over 5 years (and principal home for 2 years) and then sold it, it would have been much much less in capital gains tax. Oh I learn the hard way sometimes....

Fart tax....poor farmers...if the weather doesn't get em, the tax man will. We didn't ratify the Kyoto Protocol and Canada withdrew from it along with several other nations. A global warming trend that can't be so easily stopped when the sharing of emissions quota credits leaves the biggest polluters to carry on while the little guys scramble to meet quota targets. Another form of socialism on a grand scale. Share the wealth so everyone suffers equally. I believe that was a United Nations thing....why we go along with the concept of the United Nations is beyond me. President Clinton signed the Kyoto Protocol treaty but only as a symbolic act. It was never ratified by congress or whoever does that stuff. Pres. Bush said it left out 80% of the rest of the world (including China and India) and would do serious harm to our economy....I guess he never met Obama...China, of course, expressed disappointment over the US not signing on, I guess because they think they own us....or something....well off subject but interesting (and not off the top of my pointy little head).
