This guy is a bit cocky. I think blanks must shot a pattern wider than a sawed-off shotgun.

Has anyone shot blanks before to know how wide a pattern they produce?

I don't know what he is using for blanks but all the blanks I have fired had a single card wad over the powder charge and the wad never goes where you point the gun - it flies off in a spiral sometimes at 90 degrees to where the gun is pointed. If he uses black powder then he could be hitting the ballon with burning powder grains but even that would be "iffy".

I have made and fired shot cartridges in my four and six inch revolvers and with 148 grains of #9 shot they pattern at about one inch per foot of range. I used a paper shot cup crimped over the shot, over-powder card on top of a small charge of HP-38 (I have it in my records but they are in my son's garage until I get mine built)

Slim, sounds like a good reason for a range trip...

LOL! I've been working on a six8 terminal performance test and still have a few more range trips to go before I'm complete. Not sure I want to play with black powder.

Be interesting to see the results on the target from Jerry's 12 shots...but then again, maybe there's no need...it is Jerry Miculek, the most amazing revolver shooter of current times.

Trick shooters often had shot rounds I believe, at 10 yrds lead #dust would do a balloon.

When you load your round with only rather coarse blackpowder, you'd be amazed how far these thiny parts of BP will hurt. I expect they'll kill a balloon on such a distance.
Just wondering: why does he take balloons and not put a hole in a normal target?

Balloons are the "target" for Quick Draw competition as far as I know. I had a look at another You Tube video of him and he was shooting tin cans and a target the same way. At 10 yards he put about 10 single shots, from the hip (instinctive point shooting) into a group that would have been no more than about 2". He is good, very good.
