Meet "Ritchie" 11 weeks old now. 1/4 Ridgeback 3/4 Lab.
Good retrieve already, sticks like glue to a blanket (I was going to use another adjective but I would have upset the censors). Funny as a fight and not too destructive or noisy. Pretty confident he will be a good indicator dog for game. His Mum is an excellent hunter, dads a pure bred show dog so pretty useless in that department.

Ritchie is named after the current All Blacks Captain Ritchie McCaw, my last dog was named Tana after Tana Umanga another All Black Great.

your fluffy slippers are going to take a hiding!!!!
if you havent got a copy of "Game Dog" by Richard Wolters get your skinny little butt down to the library and borrow it. please do. it is by far the best reading on young dog training Ive ever seen and Im a readaholic so Ive read a few.. if you arent into shooting birds well the info in the book will help out in so many other ways. I have seen a labrador retrieve a half grown wallaby (about 25lbs worth) and that really opened my eyes up. getting your bunnies handed to you is a real thrill and it sure helps to get one out of the blackberry patch if you dont have to go in yourself.

He's had a go at Mums slippers but we've put a stop to that. Actually the missus has got him to sit on signal already - no words needed, he knows what we expect and seems to deliver.
I had two hours sleep today before niteshift and he didn't even whimper. Tommorrows the acid test he's gotta go two 3 to 4 hour breaks while I sleep before my second nite........will be very interesting.

P.S. thanks Vince for posting the photo for me.

Wow, what a kute pup! Makes me want to go out and get a new puppy. radar, Ya know, we could have done just fine without your mug taking up part of the frame. Why aren't you smiling? Just got done with a night of 2-hour shifts?

I'm with Slimjim...Kute pup, but what a dog on the left of the frame.

Progress report will be needed for the pup, but not the dog. Very Happy
