So they landed it, and it worked.

Maybe this will motivate the Russian's to launch a successful probe to Mars.
Mind you, 1:30am EST? This is why no one can even watch NASA events. Too late at night for the kids to watch and get interested.

Isnt that crazy it worked? Talk about a COMPLICATED design! Sooo many crazy things all had to work together, in sequence to pull it off. I'm of the K.I.S.S train of thought and when I first saw the proposed video of what was supposed to happen, I immediately thought of any one of few dozen things that could go wrong.

Dimitri,
I'm not surprised, I remember the Apollo moon landings got cut from prime time after Apollo 12, bit of a drama central for Apollo 13 and by Apollo 17 Nasa was going to have to pay the TV stations to air anything.
I'm surprised and pleased that the latest lander worked, I believe in the K.i.s.s. principle as well and thought it was far to complicated to work remotely.
I hope they get good data out of it.

Elvis,
If POTUS cant get a quiet headdy in the oval office with only 3 people knowing about it and that makes headline news, how are you going to con the several thousand people involved to take the lie to the grave with them? Same scenario for the moon landings.
Apart from that the Chinese will probably follow it up with a camera mission just to make sure.

That is true, I was not alive then but it was mentioned multiple times, including the movie Apollo 13.
Still, there is always this website:
www.nasa.gov/multimedi...index.html
As for people calling it a hoax (such as the moon landings etc), well you can find pictures of them, both from space based satellites with big cameras and earth based locations.
People just need to claim that they are a hoax, for the same reason many have a addictive believe in God, not to help them fill their life with one or the other, but to make them feel like their life is a little less meaningless.
Because if we can go to the moon and other planets, then they start to feel like they are small and unimportant and cannot handle that thought, so its easier to deny the truth of the landings then to admit that maybe we are not as big as we think we are.

I can still remember that night on 7/20/1969 when they Armstrong stepped on to the surface that night (Wisconsin) and my Mom & Dad had family and friends over to cheer the crew of Apollo 11. About 2 weeks latter, Life magazine came out with the whole magazine dedicated to the Apollo program, still have that magazine.
One of the things I learned from the Apollo program was that when enough people get together in a common cause there is virtually no limit to what they can achieve.

Dimi funny you should say that...a lady at work today made a statement that opened my ears. Someone asked her "what's the use, if they find any evidence of life on Mars?" Her reply was, "So they can disprove God exists."
I love people like that, makin me feel superior and all.

Well considering the Bible doesn't say if God created life on other planets, just talks about this planet, for all we know we could be the planet that he created life on after he realized Mars wouldn't work.
Atheists have such narrow minds.

First words spoken on the moon , NASA denies it
On July 20, 1969, commander of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module, Neil Armstrong was the first person to set foot on the moon. His first words after stepping on the moon, "That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind", were televised to Earth and heard by millions. But just before he re-entered the lander, he made the enigmatic remark:
"Good luck, Mr. Gorsky." Many people at NASA thought it was a casual remark concerning some rival Soviet Cosmonaut. However, upon checking, there was no Gorsky in either the Russian or American space programs. Over the years many people questioned Armstrong as to what the "Good luck Mr. Gorsky" statement meant, but Armstrong always just smiled. On July 5, 1995, in Tampa Bay, Florida, while answering questions following a speech, a reporter brought up the 26 year old question to Armstrong. This time he finally responded. Mr. Gorsky had died and so Neil Armstrong felt he could answer the question.
In 1938 when he was a kid in a small Midwest town, he was playing baseball with a friend in the backyard. His friend hit a fly ball, which landed in his neighbor’s yard by the bedroom windows. His neighbors were Mr. and Mrs. Gorsky.
As he leaned down to pick up the ball, young Armstrong heard Mrs. Gorsky shouting at Mr. Gorsky. "Sex! You want sex?! You’ll get sex when the kid next door walks on the moon!"

Regretfully that is a internet myth. It first appeared back in 1995 on the internet with no prior publication or talking about it. Too much junk on the internet, and its hard to filter it all out at times.

First pictures are starting to roll in as we speak/talk/read.
Won't be long now before a manned mission is on it's way I reckon.

I remember the 16th July 1969 quite clearly, we left Australia to follow my dad to Wright Patterson AFB in Ohio, got to see the moon landings in Never The Same Colour (ntsc) which was an improvement in OZ's black and white.
Still have fond memories of the Holiday Inn in Dayton, staying up late watching the landings and the pool.
A very memorable 2 1/2 years in Fairborn Ohio, got back new years day 1972.
