I was shoeing a guys horses not long ago and he told me this story.
He said he looked out the window of his house one day and there was some people standing by his fence, in the road looking at his horse. He went outside and figured out that is was Peta, and ran them off. A few days later they came back telling him that he needed to take better care of his horse, and pretty much said if he didn't that the horse would be taken away.
Well, I know this horse, he has got to be at least thirty which is old for a horse, I roped off of him when I was 13 or 14, and he seemed old then and I'm now 25 . This horse doesn't look very good anymore, his teeth are almost gone and he is pretty thin, but it is because of his age and not having good teeth. The horse is not in this shape because the guy doesn't take care of the horse. The horse is happy and still gets around well. The man that owns him has retired the horse, the only thing the horse is used for is a pet and leading his little grand daughter around on him occasionally.
Well he told Peta everything you just read about him. Peta replied that if that was the case and the horse was old without many teeth that he should probably just put the horse down.
The horses owner said that he loved this horse, and asked them that when there grandparents get old and doesn't have any teeth anymore and gets skinny, and are not looking very good anymore are they just going to put them down?
Peta replied that that would be different, but the owner of that horse didn't think it would be different. That was a great animal in his day, and still is to his grand daughter. The horse had been a good ranch horse, and had help pack out several elk for his owner and was just part of the family.
The horse was never taken away from him or put down, but died not long ago of old age.
Peta is so dumb they can't even tell when a horse is starving or just getting old. They want to stick their nose right were it don't belong. I know that there are some horses out there that are starved and should be delt with. But they need to figure out how to tell the difference and have some respect for people.
