Doublejs
I too had a 22 hornet in a Ruger 77/22. I had the same problem you experienced, I could not find the right combination of bullet, powder, and caseing to make the thing shoot right. I finally gave up on it when the 204 Ruger came out. I have absolutley no problems with this rifle. I love it.

Thanks Crackshot! I plan to test WW296, H110, Lil'Gun and AA1680 since I have those on hand. I'm hoping the Lil'Gun works out because, according to Hodgdon, it produces good velocity at a significantly lower pressure than the others. 2800+ ft/sec at 28,400CUP, compared to slightly slower at 40,000+ CUP. I'm thinking that would be easier on the brass and quieter.

Mike
I hope you can get your rifle to shoot, they are a nice little gun and fun to shoot.

Not a problem Pumpkinslinger. Let us know what happens with your testing.

Good cartridge, but not much more powerful than the Winchester .22 Magnum.
There are other, more potent calibers for about the same $$$. And, not so finicky to reload. JMO.

Hmmm... The Hornet firing a 40 grain bullet has almost 700 ftlbs of energy, compared to around 325 for a .22WMR with the same weight bullet. It uses about half the powder as a .223, i.e. cheaper to load. And I've never had any more trouble loading for it than a .223 so it's not too "finicky". Yes, there are more potent cartridges out there but they don't fill the niche for a mild varmint round. JMO Wink
