A "clean" kill is always the goal of any sportsman. I know it is an unpleasant subject for many people, but to let the "feral" cats run wild doesn't help the domesticated ones.

Sportsmand yes but there are TOOOOOOOOO many idots who just go out and don't care. I guess that my main problem still stems from the idiot who used a shotgun on my grandma's cat and let it llive that way until it found its way home. And ya we don't need what the feral have, if they have anything, to be given to the house pet and brought into the house.

That's why I believe in using either the .243 or the 22-250 when it is neccessary to take this type of action. Either one is extremely effective at dispatching feral cats.

The best cat medicine I have used is 243 with 95grn Remington Accutips My mates 270 does a fine job on them as well.
It is usually agreed around here though that whatever you have at hand will be good enough.
And no matter what you are hunting a cat is the ultimate trophy.

Well, tink that's just like the a###oles who'll torture animals any other of the myriad ways they do, unfortunately they exist, but in my view are neither hunters nor sportsmen. I think for the most part we have a group of true hunters posting here and for that I'm grateful, knowing that we're still out there. Smile

Umm, Confused OK, land pretty much bereft of animals where you live? I guess that's none of my business, I have heard that cat tastes like rabbit, but I've never tried one to find out and I can't imagine having a feral cat stuffed and mounted in the house anywhere, would probably give my puppy nightmares.

I guess I'm just used to dealing with the, uhm ya those guys, and not ones who are true hunters and sportsman because around here they are far and few between. I'll crawel back into my little hole now.

I used 95 gr. Winchester Ballistic Silvertips when I first bought my .243 for both little pigs and feral cats. I experienced too many pass-through shots, and unpredictable richochets, and was uncomfortable using them after a VERY short period. That's why I switched to the 55 gr Silvertips, they have a thinner jacket, and are more4 suited to "little" critters. I cant speak to the Remington's, but have assumed that they are produced as a mid-sized (deer sized) bullet.

Well, I pretty much agree with everyone's comments in one way or another.

We have a house cat that is kept very well fed and I think that we have pretty much controlled his NATURAL hunting urges.

If ever you want to see feral cats come to Australia. The bloody things have all but taken over the bush....and they ain't "scroungy-ass, missin-half-yer-fur, rip-off-a-rabbits-head-for-no-reason cat". Most of the feral cats I have shot have been extremely healthy, and BIG, cats. They have decimated the Australian wildlife to the point where it is unusual to see any native small ground dwelling critter when out hunting these days. The sniper teams from one of our Infantry Battalions went out into one of the National Parks some years ago and shot 600+ feral cats in a week. Yep, they greed like bloody rabbits and will even resort to cannibalism for food.

I don't know that I would consider a feral cat a trophy, but a cat skin properly tanned is a magnificent piece of leather. Very Happy

I believe that all domestic cats should be micro chipped and anything found in a non domestic area that isn't chipped should be euthanised...without hesitation.

Anybody caught shooting domestic cats should suffer the full force of the law....its just downright nasty to "hunt" an animal that is domesticated.

Cheers, Vince

Feral cats
Feral goats
Feral horses
Feral deers
Feral donkeys
Feral pigs
Feral foxes

If I've watched my TV right there's also a toad/frog problem, so the kiddies can have something to go after.

Yes,
Cane toad eradication is a growing sport, growing because they are spreading out, our poor native beasties have never known toxic frogs and they are dieing by the thousands as they hunt and eat the introduced toad.
That reminds me of fish- The list is long on those as well
