So I finally tucked enough money away from the wife to buy a new toy - went with a Taurus .357 Tracker model 627 - only ran a couple hundred rounds through it, but having never been around wheel guns and this being my first - totally loving it so far. I am impressed at how much of a difference it offers when you shoot a .38 to when you shoot a .357 through it - I am going to kill a lot of free time and tin cans with this baby!

Nice! What do you think of the ported barrel?

Mike:
I really don't have anything to compare it to, but the grips sure are comfortable in the hand, the porting does foul up a bit after a few shots but does not cause issues and the porting isn't too bad to clean - but since it has been several years since I have fired a magnum pistol, I am unable to tell if the porting relieves some of the bucking or not. The pistol sits balanced through the shot and seems to hold a nice shot group and the buck doesn't appear to be very difficult to manage. I am impressed with the unit out of the box.

Very nice Wiley! I have the 41 magnum version and did a trigger job on it and it shoots great. Good luck and have fun.
As far as the porting doing anything for recoil reduction......I dont think so. I have a Ruger Blackhawk with 45/8 barrel and it recoils the same to me. The Taurus is louder though.

Looks like a good gun and I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with it.
A word of warning: Think twice if you are intending this for defensive use though. Besides being unbearably loud, porting causes a ball of flaming gas to escape directly into the line of sight upon firing. This flame is guaranteed to ruin what little night vision you may have and make any follow-up shots more guess than aim. Another hazard of porting occurs when shooting in the "protected" position (weak hand warding off attacker - strong hand firing weapon while held close in to the body) as the escaping gas shoots upwards directly into your face. Besides the danger of eye damage, if you are wearing glasses this gas can strip them right off of your face!

Just imagine how bad that would be from the other end of the barrel!

WileyWapiti,
Looks like a great revolver. Don't know anything about porting. My Ruger .357 Mag does not have any, and recoil is not a problem for me.
I have three Taurus'. Just bought Mizz Dee a Ultra-Lite 38 Special, she loves is as do I. Her hands were not strong enough to us the Taurus 9MM pistol. With the Ultra-Lite she shot 100 percent in her CWP class.
The others are 24/7 in 40 S&W, and Millennium Pro in 9MM. Have absolutely loved using these pistols. In the past I have owned Glock's, PPK's and FN's, and the Taurus stands up to all of them.

I can tell you from first hand experience that a .357 Mag doesn't need porting to blind you at night...

+1 to that pumpkinslinger. Nor do they need a short barrel to blind you.
