In his second year
Took him last night with my 6.5x55 Swedish Tikka. By the look of his head and his teeth I'd say that he was in his second year.
Two things to say about him. 'Jeasus, he was heavy!' and 'What a big, fat deer!'
He was shot in his left side - in the engine room - the blood is from bleeding. According to my range finder, 117 yards and he was trying to get his leg over at the time. The other bucks were dozing and you should have seen them all run when the shot was fired. About 100 of them!
We're just coming into spring - it's late this year - so there is going to be a population explosion - I reckon about 40 fawns will join the herd.
