News paper in NY You might want to read this if you live in New York's Westchester and Rockland counties, they published the names of people with handgun or pistol permits, complete with a map of where they live. Gun owners can now join the ranks of sex offenders. They're seeking also to publish the number and type of guns. Doing this through the Freedom of Information Act. I fear the ignorance of this, truly fear it. The backlash could be tremendous and I'm sure glad I live on the other coast from there. We need a Freedom of Privacy Act. It doesn't even help if they can't publish concealed carry permits, because these are people that own guns period. Talk about gun-free zones, the bad guys are gonna have a field day. I just can't believe how stupid this is!!!!

This BS is getting ridiculous! It is no secret in my neighbor hood that I am a gun owner. If someone doesn't know then they obviously have no business at my residence of worrying about the contents of my residence. There a so many things going on right now that points to a massive gun control push in our society.

The state of Illinois tried this and the state patrol stepped in and said no. I don't know for sure but I think there might be a lawsuit in the works.

Well it seems the publisher of the newspaper that printed out names and maps of ccw permit holders just had the tables turned on her.

Now her info is public.

Hey OmniV good find! Would love to hear her follow-up on this. Now a public figure, I'm sure she'll have a press conference....and probably a quick call to Bekins Moving and Storage. I hope and pray there's a legal battle over this, there needs to be some restrictions on what the press can do with public information. Usually in a matter of public record they tend to make it up to you to find out the information you're curious about and it's available but not necessarily easy to get to. For instance Obama's birth record and I could go on with that but I won't.....anyway there's lots of stuff in public records that expose people one way or another, and not always in a favorable way. The press probably does have the right to do this but there is a consequence to doing what she did and she obviously didn't think this out very well.

Ok now on the other hand.....and I hesitate to say this but I have to...we're living in the Twilight Zone right now and anything you might think is wrong is actually right and anything you might think is right is actually wrong...it's hard to remember that because we are rational, practical, logical, sensible, honest, open minded, (and I speak for myself when I say free-thinking) people. Free-thinking has it's connotations in history, but I'll include myself.

So now if we can think from the other side of the brain on this....probably the underside (nothin there anyway) we'll probably see the liberal side of what she's done.....and maybe see some logical reason with a positive-to-liberal viewpoint.....maybe not...unless they want to freekin kill people, I dunno on this one, it's just plain stupid, irrational thinking I guess.

Oregon tried that-it did'nt stick!

Yeah Oregon banned concealed gun disclosure and you don't have to have a permit to own a gun here (thank you very much) but to carry concealed you do and it's a matter of public record, but the government is not allowed to disclose the names. Interestingly the Oregon issue was started by a newspaper that wanted to disclose names. WTF is their problem you ask? They don't like people that own guns. Law abiding permit carriers that have to go through a rigorous background check, fingerprints and references and all that are the target of the newspapers. Not the casual gun nut, just the ones that want protection from weirdos. The people that feel a need for personal protection, are the ones the newspapers want to target. Who's the bad guy now? Newspapers aren't recruiting old enough reporters and editors I guess. Fresh out of grade school they should let them go through high school or maybe even college and get some background in life issues and adult teeth, long pants and big boy toilet seats.

I don't live in Westchester, but Suffolk county is no bargain either.
They just don't make it easy to own a hand gun in NY. The permit process alone is so tedious, that many people don't want to go through it. After filling out all the paper work in triplicate, providing references, photos, and fingerprints, I had to wait 8 months for them to process it. After submitting to all this, you can go through the process of buying a hand gun, which has as many steps as a Mayan Temple! And the reward for putting up with the bureaucratic BS ? You get your name and address printed in the paper like a common criminal.

Any newpaper/individual that publishes or makes known the name/address of a permit holder to the public without a LAWFUL reason, the onus lies with him/her should be charged with domestic terrorism. They are giving aid and comfort to the enemy and they are no better than any other terrorist, Ben Laden, McVey to name two.
